THE SHUTDOWN WILL ALLOW FOR REPAIRS TO THE RAW WATER PIPELINE.
The Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) is scheduled to execute repairs to a section of the raw water pipeline between the John Compton Dam and the Theobalds Water Treatment Plant in Ciceron on Friday, March 1. These essential repairs are estimated to be completed within 48 hours.
During this time, all consumers supplied by the northern network will experience a service interruption. The public is asked to note that the upcoming shutdown will not affect the entire island.
On Thursday, February 29, WASCO will follow standard execution protocol in preparation for the planned works, beginning with the excavation of the pipeline. Once the compromised section has been exposed, some customers may experience low flows due to the change in external conditions of the pipeline.
WASCO understands the inconvenience caused by supply interruptions and is committed to providing a more reliable service to its valued customers. The scheduled maintenance works form part of efforts to improve the overall efficiency and resilience of the water supply system.
To mitigate the effects of the planned shutdown, WASCO urges the public to collect and conserve potable water in advance, where possible. Persons in affected areas with severely depleted water storage are eligible to receive a relief supply via our water trucking service.
We appreciate the patience of our consumers during this temporary disruption and remain committed to completing the repairs according to schedule.
WASCO wishes to inform the public that as a direct result of climate change, the reduction of flows in rivers islandwide has affected the overall supply. As we continue into the dry season, we encourage consumers to be mindful of their water usage and storage. It is essential that more stringent conservation practices be in effect during the period January to June, yearly.
We thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to improve our service.
