THE INITIATIVE IS IN FULFILMENT OF A MANDATE BY THE EDUCATION QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (EquIP).
The Piaye Secondary School has elected its first-ever Parent Teacher Community Association (PTCA) executive. This was in fulfilment of a mandate from EQuIP, the Education Quality Improvement Project funded by Caribbean Development Bank. One objective is to get the community involved in the lives of students who will eventually form the workforce and become local leaders.
The election of the new executive took place at a meet and greet special event organised by the Piaye Secondary School.
Nominations were invited and elections held—and in the end Lisa Jn. Baptiste was elected the first President of the Piaye Secondary School Parent Teachers Community Association. Among her first tasks was a call for more community and parental support for the new PTCA.
Students of the Piaye Secondary School were also involved in the exercise. The students have welcomed the formation of the PTCA and pledged support.
The Piaye Secondary School is one of four pilot schools to introduce the EquIP-inspired concept of a Parent Teacher Community Association. The other pilot schools are the Micoud Secondary School, the Soufriere Primary School and the Lady Gordon Opportunity Centre.
