VOLUNTEER SAINT LUCIA NOW HAS FIVE ACTIVE BRANCEHS WITH THE ADDITION OF THE GROS-ISLET BRANCH.

Volunteer Saint Lucia is a non-profit organization operating under the patronage of the Governor General of Saint Lucia. The organization embodies civic responsibility and patriotism through charitable service.

Formed in 2007, the organization is currently rebranding and refocusing its resources toward working with communities at risk. To achieve this goal, the organization has been training young people in the areas of leadership and ethics.

Governor General of Saint Lucia, His Excellency, Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac, expressed contentment with the youth interest in the organization.

“I am proud to be the patron of Volunteer Saint Lucia,” he said. “I take all institutions seriously, but I can tell you never mind you see young people who are going astray, there are lots of young people who are volunteering their time to do good. Christ himself, such a good man, only had 12 disciples, but you are many more than 12. Imagine what type of society it would be if all the towns and villages had volunteers like you.”

Currently, Volunteer Saint Lucia has five active branches, including the newly-instituted Gros- Islet branch.

Diane Felicien, Consultant for the National Volunteer Program, encouraged the volunteers of the new branch.

“Volunteerism is service above self,” she said. “It doesn’t matter where you come from. Your job, your school, your area, does not determine whether you become a volunteer or not; all you need is passion, commitment, discipline and patience, and the sky is the limit.”

The Volunteer Saint Lucia Gros-Islet branch was launched on November 24.
