The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with the Government of Saint Lucia is hosting a two-day workshop to educate those in the fashion design and modeling industries on the topic of intellectual property rights.
Officials say the event is timely, especially as the country makes recognized gains in the local fashion industry, and following the country’s successful staging of the second edition of the Hot Couture fashion extravaganza, as part of the prestigious Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival in May of this year.
The workshop will heighten awareness amongst creators of fashion and design in Saint Lucia. Participants, including those in fashion design, the textile and garment industry and the growing modeling industry, will discuss issues on how copyright can protect fashion design, as well as consider what protection may be necessary in the context of the fashion industry in Saint Lucia.
The workshop commenced today, July 10, at the Coco Palm Hotel in Rodney Bay and ends tomorrow. The activity, on both days, will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The workshop is being supported by the island’s Registry of Companies and Intellectual Property of the Attorney General's Chambers.
